Hi

I have a UK 1.8T A3 (150Bhp), 2002, 105k miles. New T belt and clutch. Just recently the engine has started "jerking" when I power up over 3K revs, its almost like the power is being cut to the engine and the turbo not kicking in. On the motorway, in fifth gear, it happens continually as I get to 80MPH. There don`t appear to be any whiny noises or other problems and the engine management light is not on.

Any Ideas? Is it the first sign of the Turbo failing or something relatively minor. Is it safe to drive or wil it cause more damage by driving it? Maybe its fate telling me to upgrade to the S3 I saw the other day!!!

Any advice/troubleshooting tips greatly appreciated.

Start by checking for faults. Could be a turbo issue. Not necessary a failure in the turbo as you have the n75 vavle that controls boost and the bypass valves or their controls could also cause a sporadic boost situation. Also dont overlook the maf. It its the same one thats on the tt, which is posible, it can cause similar eratic engine operation.

 

I'm getting a similar problem with my s4. Switched out the diverter valves - same problem. Are you getting a cloud of black smoke along with the power loss at 3k?

 

Well i just got my 98 a4 1.8 t and for some reason im only running 77% throttle....and it feels like im not building boost at all.......the other thing its doing is throwing 1237,1238,1239....could some one help?
