A4 1.8T Constant Noise!
Hi chaps,
Looking for a bit of help/advice! When I start my A4 1.8T up the engine (on idle) sounds like a belt is rattling (quite loud). When I engage the clutch the noise seems to stop, but as soon as the clutch is up and I am driving the sound carries on. It seems to get louder after about a mile and when the car is idling but you can still hear it while driving...
Any ideas?! You may remember this is the nightmare motor which engine/turbo/clutch went wrong last year and has been replaced!
Cheers

RE: A4 1.8T Constant Noise!
Ok I have just spent some time playing around. The noise is worst when idling. If I rev high then let it go to idle it gets worst! I have pinpointed the noise to a belt/wheel at the front bottom of the engine. Behind the fan/cooler there is a belt/pulley system with about 3 wheels. The noise was completely reduced when I oiled the one at the bottom nearest the wheel (right hand side if facing engine).
Anyone know what this is? I had the car checked about 6 weeks ago and the chap said the belt was fine and he simply greased this wheel up, but it has come back. Any ideas much appreciated.....
