I have heard that the VAG-Com adaptor/software and a laptop are a very good tool to troubleshoot the A4.

There are so many versions/offers out there, that I cannot determine which one to get.

We have:

- 1998 Audi A4 1.8 T quattro manu (B5)
- Windows XP
- USB2

Can someone post links to the right adaptor and software for this combination?

I found reference to 16 pin connector and CAN bus.
Does the 1998 A4 (B5) have the 16 pin?
I assume not, but do I need a CAN bus adaptor?

Also references made to 409.1 Version. Is that the one I need?

Or are all those working with XP and USB: KEY-COM KII-USB Micro-CAN HEX-COM+CAN HEX-USB+CAN

 

Check it out in E-Bay Dude. The ones in Blue Trapizoidal 16Pin Socket would work for A4 / B5 Platforms.

I use this cable on 2001 A4/2.8Q. Works pretty cool. Also the USB Drivers and compatible Ross-Tech 3.XXX software would be provided in the CD

i know its been a while since you posted your problem. But i was curious to find out, did the vag com work for you? the one one you ordered from ebay? I'm in the same boat.
