Default a4 Key Question

Hello all,

This is my first post about my first audi....

I have an A4 1.9tdi 03/1996 on a N plate. When i purchased the car it came with just one key, its the older type not the switchblade type. It has an alarm and an immobiliser which opperates from the central locking when you lock or unlock the car with the key.
I am unaware if it has remote central locking but would like to find out if it does but dont know how to....any ideas anyone? I also want to get another key and programme it to the cars security features regardless just incase i ever loose the only key i have.
Blanks are easily available off ebay etc and getting it cut can be done at my local hardware store, i just want to know how and if i can programme it myself.

Many thanks in advance!

All cars came with keyless entry in the US, not to sure about europe. Im assuming thats where you're from given that you have a TDI motor.
The key fobs you can program yourself, there is a DIY for it floating around here somewhere.
The immobilizer on the other hand can ONLY be programmed by the dealer. They have to use certain access codes thats sent over the internet to germany that activates the key to a specific vehicles ECM and Cluster.
