Default 09 a4

09 Audi after all services maintenances done at the dealer for past 4 years broke with Timing chain tensioner failure @ 95K miles.
Dealer or Audi does nothing. Got a quote for $1500 from a German car specialist repair shop.
Any useful updates?

Default Class action lawsuit

Mine happened at 45k miles and cost me $1700! I contacted Sobran law firm who is suing VW Audi with class action.

Default 2011 A5 2.0T - oil consumption/timing chain

Hey guys another unlucky audi owner here, although it looks like I may be one of the lucky ones. I have a 2011 A5 2.0t that just failed the oil consumption test at 65k. Audi is going to pay for the piston and ring replacement but service rep said they will be inspecting the engine to see if anything else would need replacing (tensioner and guide) - not covered. I'm not worried about paying for the guide and tensioner replacement while the chain is exposed I'm worried if audi will be replacing my tension and guide with oem parts (2011 guide that is destined to fail) or do they have an updated tensioner and guide manufactured to survive the normal life of a timing chain?

Any updates on the class action? I like my A5 (when it's not sitting at the dealer) but I'm torn between getting rid of it or holding on to it with the hope that audi will reimburse me for a destined premature timing chain failure.

They should install the upgraded tensioner but I'd confirm it with them in writing!!

Spoke to the dealer today and they are covering the Pistons and rings not the tensioner ($117) guide (I'm guessing with labor~$50) and chain ($179). Water pump is supposedly leaking as well, not paying $350 for that I'll do it myself. Tech said that it looks like the tensioner only needs to be replaced but they recommend changing the guide and chain as well. He told me this is considered routine maintenance and when I asked him what timing chain needs maintenance he had no response for me haha.

I'm getting the vibe that my timing chain components would be covered only if they failed but when they fail I'll be paying $5,000 for a new engine. This IS "truth in engineering" at its finest.

Well my 2013 Q5 came apart yesterday and turns out its the same thing you guys are experiencing. The timing chain tensioner failed, caused it to jump time and sounded like the engine was coming apart. I immediately turned it off but Id say the damage is done.

Im not sure how this is going to turn out but mine has a CPO warranty on it. As I found out today though the CPO doesn't cover everything so I will be interested to see what Audi does. Quote for a used engine was $7500. Anyone else get one of these covered under warranty or am I on my own here?

Ok, everybody. I just joined this forum in hopes to see I am not the only one here. I have read most of these posts, and I am relieved to see that this is happening all across the board. However, I may not be so lucky as some of you, so I am desperate for any input and advice you can give. I have a 2010 A4. I bought it from a high end used car dealer with 77,100 miles on it. In the first few weeks I owned it, I noticed the oil consumption. I added oil as needed, and eventually contacted my local dealer. I reported the issue over the phone before 80,000 miles. They couldn't get me in for a couple weeks to take a look. By the time they fit me in, it crossed the 80k mile mark. Unfortunately, I commute work work. They replaced the PCV valve, and said it was most likely part of this 'oil consumption issue'. I got the car back same day, and was advised to keep an eye on the oil level. The oil consumption was back. I brought the car back in, and it failed the oil consumption test. They said it needed to come back for Stage 2 of the oil consumption issue, and would call me when the parts came in. They also said it would be covered at no charge, because I reported it to them before 80k miles. They said to keep adding oil as needed, and the car should be fine. A few weeks went by, and I did not hear back. I called several times, and no answer at the service department. I left several messages. Meanwhile, my seasonal job met with winter, and I did not commute and drove locally only and added oil as needed. Once spring of this year came, I started commuting again. The car drove perfectly fine until it just stalled at idle. The car was towed to the local dealer. I was informed that the timing chain tensioner failed. I asked about the oil consumption issue, and asked why I was never contacted. I was told the man I dealt with was fired shortly after my car was seen, and the entire service department was revamped due to this man. My case fell through the cracks. They do have on record that I reported the problem before 80k miles. They said that since they dropped the ball, the oil consumption issue would be covered. However, they said I would be responsible for the timing chain repairs. A few days later, they called and said Audi is not covering the oil consumption issue because of the mileage - it is now at 104k. They want to see all my receipts and records I have kept because I do my own work. I have almost every receipt of oil I purchased, and I have kept a maintenance log as well as an oil consumption log. I am in the process of providing the dealer with all of this as we speak. Can anyone give me some advice here on what repercussions I have and routes I can take to get this rectified? I have pampered this car and am devastated.

The vehicle has just 70,000 miles and now the Timing Chain appears to have failed (and probably wrecked the engine). This vehicle was meticulously serviced by the Dealer throughout it's (short) life and the 'ticking time bomb' was never mentioned to me - Yes, they know the characteristic and so does the auto engineering market...

see: 2.0T TSI Timing Chain Tensioner Failure - Redline Speed Worx (RSW) : Redline Speed Worx (RSW)

The vehicle now has a failed engine and the vehicle sits at the Audi Dealer in Austin Texas. I believe they have to dig into the engine to rectify the oil consumption problem. Why don't they take responsibility for the Premature Timing Chain failure and Fix it at the same ?
The QUESTION: How do to persuade Audi to take responsibility for the latent problem that they have engineered into the engine, and the catastrophic result that it causes. What we ask is that Audi stands behind it's "Truth in Engineering..." claim. That's all.
Anyone experience the same problem with the timing chain? Anyone have any advise on who to contact to get reasonable treatment?
Hello "RunfromAudi"!

I have a 2001 Q5 and have been researching the parts availability to fix the airbag issue/recall in my car when I came upon the NHTSA site
(https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2011/A...AWD#complaints) and found info about the timing chain failure issue in my Audi. If you are US-based, I suggest you go to the NHTSA site and file a formal complaint about the timing belt issue you experienced on your Audi model. You will need your VIN#. My hope is, with enough recorded instances of this failure, NHTSA will make Audi recall models affected by this issue - a savings for us all! Good Luck!!
