Default Air Con filter cleaning

Hi there,

I recently bought a second hand A4 avant B6. The previous owner obviously smoked quite a lot as the car's interior badly smells of cigarette odour. I've had the car professionally cleaned inside but the smell persists. When the air con runs the smell seems to increase. I spotted on another forum (http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf510948.tip.html) that it's possible to clean the air con filters with vinegar which could help ease the problematic smell. Has anyone tried this or can anyone help to outline how I can remove and clean the filters?

Thanks for your help !!

One thing that you might try that will help is to remove the cabin filter and either replace it or give it a good cleaning and spray it with Febreze Antimicrobial and replace it. I think you will like the results.

Good luck, it's in everything in the car. You have to have everything deep cleaned with a water extractor. Changing the HVAC filter will do nothing for the oder, it just cleans the air going to the heater & AC. So smoke would not get in the filter.

If that doesn't do it ( i doubt it will) find a auto-detailer with a Ozone machine, it will remove the oder.
