Default Air filter

I bought an air filter by K&N the ones that you just clean and you dont have to replace. My question is when do you replace the air filters at what milage and what type of front brakes can I buy for my A6 quattro v6?

Did you mean when do you wash/clean the K&N filters? It's usually every 50,000 miles - take them out, wash them with soap and warm water, let them dry, re-oil them with a reoiling kit (about $7 at an auto parts store), and reinstall for the next 50,000 miles.

No problem Also, as far as your brakes go, check out the vendors in the site sponsor section - I'm sure someone hasa decent brake package for your car.

I would clean it around every 15,000 miles. It's not hard to do and your car will thank you for it.

Sure you can do it as often as you like. On the K&N filter I bought a few years ago, that was the recommendation. That's the max mileage you should run like that of course, and you can clean it weekly if you like. But according to the company, 50k miles is fine. I agree with you though, more frequent is better. Still you can get away with that much mileage if you so desire.

FWIW, K&N has always claimed that its filters actually work a little bit better when they are a little bit dirty. The dirt stuck to the filter/oil actually results in smaller passages and the filters therefore do a better job of filtering...filters out finer particles. I am pretty sure that is where the 50k interval came from.

I recall the instructions for cleaning saying something like "it's better if you don't clean it as often, but we know you will anyway."
