Default another no heat issue

alright heres the deal just bought an a4 and the heat is not working the fan comes on and blows out mild not warm air the coolant guage is in the middle and the oil gauge is at the first notch it was more toward the middle. today the dealer i bought it from said he replaced the thermostat is that a quick job cause it took him maybe an hour and when he brought it back i tryed out the heat and it worked great but about 4 hours later i left for work and the heat never came on and i drive an hour from work any ideas also my wipers were going very slow when i first bought the car but the other day i was driveing for about 20 minutes and they stoped so i pulled over and after a few minutes they came back on then they stoped again a little later and kept doing progresivly worse on the way home later on i was using the again but only sparingly because i didnt want them to go and they seemed to be working about half way home they made a grinding wierd noise and started going pretty fast more like normal but know they make a loud grinding sound but they seem to work fine any ideas thanks

The wiper issue is most likely a failed wiper motor. For an early version of the 1.8 1 hour is plenty of time for the thermostat. I would try bleeding the cooling system. You may have developed an air pocket in the heater core.

air in the system is a definately possiblity. run the car on a level surface with the coolant cap off for a while, til its hot, then run it some more. as for the wipers, could be a continuity issue between the harness and motor, failing motor, also have seen wiper transmissions sieze up and do similar things.

That reminds me. Also checke the linkage. They bindup sometimes. Quite often actually. See if the motor runs ok with the linkage disconnected.
