APR R1's still honking????
1. Year of car : 2003
2. Model of car: A6
3. engine: 2.7T/Tip w/ APR 93 oct program/ Evoms intake
4. Miles 75K
5. Quattro
6. Torque converter code/stuck off
Hey, I'm a newbie and for the last 2 months have been running into some honking issues with my R1 dv's. 1st off APR after finding out that there was this problem had me change out the stock springs to the blue ones.....still honked under light and heavy acceleration. They took them back and gave me a new pair because they thought there might be a possible diaphram problem.....so to say the least...the new ones are still honking with the blue springs and now my torque converter is sticking off. The performance shop that I purchased the dv's from wants to put in an even heavier spring....should this cure the problem...will this effect the throttle response???? I'm pretty much at a loss, I'd hate to take them out, but the noise and performance loss is killing me. If any of you guys have encountered this problem and have a solution, please tell me...since I'd hate to put these dv's back on a shelf.

RE: APR R1's still honking????
well the dv's start to make a honking noise??? like I have some geese under my hood...if I'm accelerating lighting, somewhere around 20-30mph....the noise will last a lot longer....if I'm on the gas...a quick honk will occur. I just installed them 2 months ago and both sets have made this noise....the shop says apparently the valve isn't being closed all the way and boost is exceeding around the diaphragm. They shimmed it today and it still makes the noise..not as bad, but now the throttle response sucks...so I think I'm going to be switching them out, unless you have an answer or a suggestion that might work?

RE: APR R1's still honking????
i have been hearing a honk after installing a apr r1 on my 2002 1.8t a4.
I have stage 1 right now, and i hear a short honk only on boost, but it is a half second honk. not a constant honk, and my boost is at 19.8, even tho when i first got the car chipped my guage logged 20.8 psi. i am prolly going to go back to the shop

That's about the same as mine, the short honk at boost but I hear a light honking noise at light acceleration from about 20-30mpg. I don't have a boost gauge so I'm not positive want lbs boost is being created. I have the blue 23-30lb spring and it still honks....even after they shimmed that spring it honked a little less, but the throttle response sucked so I took out the shim. I was told at the shop when I purchased the first set of DV's that some 2.7T's will make them honk...but it's starting to get a tad old about now.
