Audi A4 1.8T (2001 B6) cabin heating problem
Hey everyone!
Here's my problem:
My girlfriend started my car in the morning (-5 C outside temp), and got a message (Kühlmittel = coolant fluid) on the screen. It stayed on the screen for about 2 minutes and vanished. Unfortunately she didn't check the coolant fluid and drove home (10 km) instead (no warning signs were visible). When she told me about the problem, I checked the coolant fluid level and it was practically empty. I filled it up, but the A/C just blows cold air (the motor temp is normal 90 C).
When I opened the hood while the engine was running (motor temp 90 C) and touched the HEATER CORE HOSES, they were BOTH COLD. So it seems like there is no coolant circulating in the heater at all.
I think that the coolant fluid has been dripping for a long time because the heater first stopped heating when idle.
If someone knows how to fix this problem, me (and my wallet ) would be very thankful.

I know the heater cores plugging up on those cars is a common issue if they haven't been flushed. The one in my 2004 is a nightmare to replace so I make flushing the system a priority. I would try to bleed the air out of your coolant system first and make sure you don't have a vapour lock. If it is not a vapour lock and the heater core is plugged I would check with napa and see if there is an additive you can add to break down the corrosion. If you have access to the inlet and outlet of your heater hoses remove them and try circulating water through with some pressure.
