I have an Audi A4 3.0. I am looking into changing the timing belt this weekend but first i was curious if it can be done with out the cam position tool. I have done other 2.0/1.8 audi/vws before without andthing like this. Is it possible to do this one with out removing the valve covers and using the cam position tool?

 

No, the cams must be locked at the TDC position using the special tool in each bank.
