Default Audi boot (trunk) opening - Is this normal

Hi, this is just a query regarding the opening of the boot using the key remote.

I have an A4 1.9tdi 2003. I've had it for about 3 years now and I've had this nagging doubt in my mind about whether the opening of the boot is right or not.

When I press the boot opening button on the key lock for a few seconds, it unlocks the boot lock, but I have to lift it up to open it. My question is shouldn't the boot door lift by itself using the hydraulics after pressing the boot open button on the key, or is it normal to lift it up by yourself?

I don't have a similar car to compare it against to see if this is normal or not. I mean, I would expect this to be automatic, as if someone is carrying things in their hands, then presses the boot unlock button the boot should lift itself up so you can place the things in the car instead of putting them on the floor, then lifting the boot up, and then placing the items in the boot.

Thanks.
