Default Worn brake indicator

First, my apologies if this question has been answered before and I missed it. I have a 1999 A6 Avant that is giving me a worn brake indicator "(O)" even with the system disabled (jumpered at each front wheel). I stripped, tinned, and soldiered each connection and tested with a meter to ensure that it is, in fact, disabled. I think I may have a broken wire somewhere in the system and am looking for advice on where to look next.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not 100% sure, but on the A4s from 1999, this indicator could mean low brake fluid or front brake pads worn.

It is a worn pad indicator and, as I said, that system is disabled with the wires stripped tinned and soldiered at each wheel but I will double-check the fluid level to rule that out.

Add fluid to the neck.

The problem was a broken wire somewhere between the brake sensor at the wheel and the instrument panel. My solution was to ground pin #7 (br/gn) on the instruments green connector.

Can you provide more detail on the wiring and how to get at the connectors?

I found this link that describes the procedure for an A8 and was helpful with everything except for the wiring:

The wire, connector, and pin number I posted earlier was for my 1999 A6 Avant, your '03 A4 will no doubt be different but the instrument panel removal procedure in the above link should be suffice as a general guide for that part.

Thanks burnout, that was very helpful.

I found a wiring diagram for a 2000 A4 where pin 32 of a green 32 pin connector has the sensor wire. There are also grounds located at pin numbers 18 and 19 of the same connector. Does anyone know if this also applies to the 2003 models?
