How do I remove/replace the interior rearview mirror on a 1999 Audi A6 Avant without breaking it or breaking the windshield?

 

It just twists off. Unfortunaltly not breaking the windsheild is easier said the windshild is easier said than done. Ive actually broken a windshield taking one off and im not the only one at my shop thats done it. Basically you have to gently, but focrefully twist the mirror to release it from the locking tabs on the windshield. Personally i would just let someone else deal with it.It may cost you more, but if they break the windsheild its their problem.
