This problem just started about 2 days ago. If i turn my car on it will run at 900Rpm but if i put it in drive or reverse it will shut off. Sometimes it will go at 100rpm when stoping at a light. Any ideas what that can be.

everything you come to a stop, or everytime you put the car in gear you have your foot on the brake, sounds possibly like a rip in the brake vacuum booster. Unless you have an old audi with hydrolic assist from the power steering and then we can rule a vacuum assist out. I guess it really depends on the car

 

Sorry. I have an 2000 A4. The car only drops in RPM and or shuts off when you stop at a light coming with like 35mph. If you let it drop in gears 3 - 2 -1 then it docent always do it. How do i check the transmission fluid i don't have a dip stick?

 

Try cleaning your throttle body and checking for vacuum leaks. The trans fluid check is rather difficult. You need a scan tool to read trans temperature and then you remove a plug in the bottom of the trans to see where the levels at.

 

Also could be an issue with the t.c.c. (torque converter clutch). If it's not releasing, or if it's dragging that would cause her to shut off anytime it's put in gear or when coming to a stop.
