Default Break Pads / Discs - Price?

Hello all! I am taking my A6 in next week to have some break work done. They told me when I had my last service that I would need to have the pads and discs replaced within 3,000 miles and I am going to get it done. Does anyone have a ball park of what it might cost?? I hate having break work done because you never know what they are going to charge. I was also wanting to know what they are referring to when they say my discs? They aren't talking about my rotors are they? I would really hope not. I also want to throw in that my breaks aren't even squeaking, so I'm hoping I really need this work done. Thanks for the help!

The discs and rotors are the same thing. At a dealership rotors will run about 100 bucks apiece. Pads maybe 50 per axle. And either 2 or 2.5 hours labor per axle. Labor prices can vary greatly depending on locatoin.

The rotors (discs) 100 apiece and 120 for oem pads. You can get 50 pads at an auto store but they will not satisfy the computer monitar. Usualy around $400 job which is a complete rip. The pads have to be oem because there is a signal wire which is built into the pad and pluged into a conector in the wheel well. The dealer always seems to recomend rotors but I usualy get two more changes after their so called recomendation. The only problem with running your rotors down is as you re apply the lugs you may warp your rotor which is not unsafe but anoying as it will shake the steering wheel as you apply the brake. The whole job of changing the pads which is probably all you need is around 20 min using a jack stand and your front driveway. Is your brake service notification on yet? It will wait to the last minute to come on but will buy you some time to find a better deal than the dealer you are using. Good Luck!
