Buying a used Audi A4 - Some Q's
all in all the 2.8 is a good motor, no turbo to worry about, along with the related issues. just make sure the timing belt is done along with the water pump, ive seen a water pump sieze up after the belt was done and major issues occurred after that to the tune of $3000+ in service. cam seals occasionally leak, if you can, get the car on a lift and look up the back of the engine towards the valve covers, i theyre's oil, its prolly the cam seals. fuel pumps occasionally go, however not frequent. front uper control arms are junk, but with 70k, likely to have already been replaced. rear brakes sieze up, spin the wheel and check for binding. transmissions are pretty bulletproof, but cv boots like to tear. rear axle seals leak sometimes, but are easy to repair. as far as electronics go, you get what you get, no way of telling. power heated seats along with the seat covers, sunroof modules and brake switches are common problems. never disconnect the battery thought, because the "rediness" needs to be reset with a VAG tool or else the car will not run/shift/ drive properly. nice cars though, dont be scared, just have some money set aside for repairs.
