Default car audio help for audi

i have the factory bose system in my 98 A4. I want to get off market speakers and a new audio system. What is the best place to do this?

Is circuit city or best buy a good place or do I need to go to a custom car audio store? I live in the dallas area. thanks.

The bose system came with a factory amp specifically designed for bose, they equalize the crap out of those speakers. Consequently, any other after market speakers will not sound good until that amp is removed. As far as sound goes, the factory positioned speakers do not allow for the required mounting depth for any decent speaker. You are looking at custom 6 1/2 kick panels if you want decent sound. maybe a tweeter in the A-pillar. I have searched the internet for a pre-made kick panel for our b5 and have come up with nothing. You will have to either find instructions for making one yourself or find a local audio shop that does that kind of work. Best buy or circuit city will not do fiberglass work. As far as a head unit Newegg.com sells a nice touchscreen clarion for under 350 that is amazing. You will not find a better deal. As far as the install, if you lace the expertise, find someone local. Who is getting wealthy when you go to a big-box store? And who offers better advice? Some kid getting 6.50 an hr who wont be there in 6 months or a shop doing business in your area for years?

Just one mans opinion, and good luck. I will be doing almost the exact same set up to my 99 A4 after the holidays stay tuned for the results.
