I recently fitted a new wiper linkage and motor to my audi a3 99 plate 1.8T. The wiper linkage came with used motor on it, all worked fine so i fitted, turned the car off and went in the house. Came back out later to head to my mates and it was working still and no issues in the car.

It wasnt till later that night when i went to drive home and the car wouldnt start. Starter motor is going for it, all my lights still work, radio ect but the instument cluster has no power going to it and electric windows wont function.

I got in and disconnected the wiper motor to see if it would make a firrence but still no luck.

Has anyone came across this issue before??

 

First thing i would check is the battery voltage. Weird problems can develop when the battery gets too low.

 

Ill check that out when i get home, only replaced the battery last year and the electrics in the rest of the car all work fine. Just the control panel, windows and the diagnostics port that are dead

 

If the communication port is dead meaning it will not power up a scanner then check your fuses. It is usually the same one tied into the power outlet (cigarette lighter).
If it is a matter of no communication then there is somthing bring down the can communication line. Could be a module.

 

So i checked the battery today and its all good, fuse for the cigarette lighter is fine aswell. Could there be any relays causing issues? I can only think the wiper motor that came with the linkages is to blame

 

Do you check the battery??? May be the battery hasn't got enough power to start the engine.

Yeah battery readings are fine, even tried a jump from my pals motor but no joy nobody ive spoke to has ever seen this
