Unhappy Cruise control doesn't work

Hi folks,
Got a '99 A4 Avant 1.8 Turbo/Quattro 5-speed. I got in used just about a month ago. It's in very good condition, has 105k miles and I have ALL the maintenance.
I previously had a '99 Passat 1.8T, so I'm quite familiar with the platform, and never had issues with the cruise in that car.
Simply put, when I push the button on the left side stalk, nothing happens. Any ideas? Is there a fuse for this thing or what?
Just a side question, why the hell doesn't my car have an OBC? Bizarre, when my non-GLX Passat had it. Can't believe this wasn't part of the Quattro/Avant package standard. Oh, and I haven't checked for sure (because I don't have a !@#$%&!! OBC) what my mileage is, but it seems crappy. What's normal? I was getting 26/31 in the Passat.

Try spraying the switch with RadioShack Contact Cleaner.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure you got the jist of it. The switch MOVEMENT is fine. I can push it with no problems, but simply put, nothing happens. Does anyone know of the cruise control dying?

The spray cleans the electrical contacts.

We've talked about this in the A6 section quite a bit. It seems to be a problem with with most of our cars. Not many fixes besides replacing the stick, or like people have said already: taking everything apart and cleaning the contacts (mixed results). It does it with mine as well, pretty randomly.
