Arrow Cruise Control doesn't work...where should I start?

SO yea, my cruise control simply doesnt work. i followed the manual's instruction to activate it and it doesnt work at all. I searched and see that some people blame a vaccum issue but how can i check and see if thats the cause? If not what is another likely cause?

Seems common on these cars. I had it on my old one and have it on a6 now. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Very frustrating!!! I have replaced the stalk and it went back to its old tricks. I notice from 05 on they changed the setup. The VW passat's have same issue!

A lot of people have suggested taking it apart and cleaning the contacts, but I don't know if this is very effective or anything - not to mention it's a pain in the butt. I hate to say it, but it's almost something you have to live with or pay a bunch of money trying to solve.

Well I use it all the time and it works about 60%-70% of the time which is REALLY frustrating. Especially because it will just quit randomly when going down the highway - it sometimes scares the crap out of me because I think the engine died or something haha.

I've found that if you're persistent about getting it to work it will usually work for you (after about 30 miles I find that it will work closer to 90%). Frustrating.

I have this same issue but I don't have a manual - what ARE the manual's instructions? and, is there a place I can get an A6 4.2 manual? (free)

I was able to fix the cruise control on my 1998 Audi A6 Quattro wagon. I replaced the brake switch, the brake vacuum vent switch and cleaned the cruise control switch on the steering column. Since none of these fixed the problem I had to finally replace the cruise control module with a good used one.
