Dashboard lights
I've had two of my dashboard lights go out. One behind the gas gauge, and another behind the engine temp. How do I replace them? And is it difficult to replace? Oh yeah, I have a '98 2.0 a4 quattro.
Very easy to do. Where the steering column comes out of the dash, you have a trim ring of sorts that the column emerges through. There is a top part and a lower part. The top part just snaps off. Take it off, and that exposes two screws at the bottom of the cluster. Remove those with a philips screwdriver, and then pull the cluster out, left side first. You'll have to unplug the wiring connections into the back of the cluster, but bringing the left side out first will allow you enough reach to unplug all of them.
Then on the back of the cluster, you'll see little colored plugs with a slot in the back (for a flathead screwdriver). These are the bulbs. Remove the burned out ones and replace them with new ones from the dealer (not sure where else to find them). They twist 90 degrees, and then pop out. Put the new ones in, twist them in to lock into place, and reassemble your car in the reverse order.
