On board diagnostic light goes on, garage claims it is the Catalytic converter have to go. Other garage claims it should be desensitize by the dealership. Any info out there?

There are TSB's out there for the 1.8T 2.7T 2.8L and 4.2L for flashing the ecm software to take down the sensitivity of the O2 sensors from throwing a CEL. If your cats don't smell like rotten eggs you need the flash. Its a lot cheaper than putting in thousand dollar cat converters.

 

Thanks, Cat dosn't smell, car drives great. Just the light keep comint out and garage keep reseting the computer. What you are suggestingdosn't sound like somthinga dealership will do, whocan do this?
