Can I/ is it worth the effort to swap a 2.8 with a 3.0?

Gonna be the same amount of work either way.. As long as you have the ECU for that 3.0, it could be certainly be done if the particular model had the 3.0 available as an option.

As far as I can find the 01 was not available with the 3.0. so your saying it would be a no go?

Not saying it can't be done but it may not be a smooth an upgrade as it may seem. Gone are the days when you can drop engines from different year models into a car and it not end up mating like it should. They do this crap on purpose it seems.. LOL

Does it need to be the exact ecu from the motor or would a replacement ecu for the same type of motor work? Also what about things like motor mounts and exhaust would they line up?

If you can get the ECU for THAT engine, it'd make things a lot easier in that department. Not sure about the engine mounts, exhausts, and most importantly, the bellhousing for mating the trans.....
