Default Exhaust fumes inside the engine

I recently purchased a brand new 2006 A4 2.0T with CVT. The very next day I noticed that the engine is a bit noisy when you open the hood - it makes this air popping noise. Also when you open the oil lid right after the engine has been run there is smoke there and it smells like exhaust. Is this normal? The car is has 2,000 km right now and it runs really nice.

If the air popping noise happens after you shut the engine off its normal. I think its the throttle body performing a shutdown function. It makes a kinda pop noise. Smoke from the oil cap is also normal for a hot engine. Most likely its steam evaporating from the crankcase.
