Exhaust leakage - from the turbo?
Hi all!
I've recently bought a 1994 Audi 80 1,9 TDI Avant. A few days after I bought it, I suddenly heard a whizzling sound from the engine while accelerating. The sound can be compared to driving with a window slightly open, except I had no open windows. At first I could only hear the sound when revving the engine, but over the last few days it has changed and I can now hear it as soon as I start the engine.
I talked to the local Audi dealer/workshop, which told me to check the hose which runs from the turbo to the intake manifold. I tried to do this, and noticed that the leakage smells like exhaust fumes. I was not able to pinpoint the leakage, but I think it comes either from the earlier mentioned hose, or from the exhaust manifold.
Today I removed the protection cover underneath the engine to get a better look, and I find this 12-edged bolt lying on top of the cover. Does anybody know where this bolt belongs? Is there a chance that this bolt is the cause of my troubles? I know that the previous owner changed the turbo a short time ago, maybe the bolt has loosened from the turbo assembly?
