Gassed Shocks?
Hi All, firstly i'm new to this forum so be gentle!
I have just recently purchased a 2001 Audi A4, 1.9 TDI, 5 speed manual.
Im in the UK by the way. Had my mechanic service it and he checked the brakes for me, done the usual oil and filters etc. Only fault code that was showing was a rear number plate light, which i knew about anyways.
My car has 126k on the clock and my mechanic says a timing belt change is due, which i think is perfectly reasonable.
However, he did say the only issue mechanically then was that the previous owner has 'gassed the shocks'. Apparently gas softens them and makes them compress more, rather than using lowering springs or coilovers? This seemed strange to me, but a set of shocks all round might be needed in future.
Does anyone know of this issue and is it serious? thanks
Kenny
