Hi, I am new to the forms, and i was wondering if anyone could help with my problem.

I have an Audi A4 1.9TDi 1996 model and for a couple of weeks i have had a grinding noise when i brake with some vibration through the brake pedal. also when i am driving around speeds of 45mph my ABS & engine managing light comes on with a bleeping noise. I changed my front brake disks and pads 2 days ago and the grinding is still there when i brake, could this be my ABS sensor rings ?

I wonder if your calipers (or one)are hanging up(Not depressing)Also did you use audi pads?,And have you checked your brake fluid level?

 

I replaced my own front discs and pads, and my brakes started grinding on me too. Turns out my calipers were hanging up and I used the wrong pads, just like the poster above me mentioned. You need to redo the procedure, and maybe have an audi independant help you.

 

I have had similar issues with my 98 A4. The ABS light/sound was the ABS control unit failing. It would go off and on for a while until it fails completely. Initially I was told $400 and no car for 1-4 weeks, to have it sent in for a rebuild. However I have since found a couple other options on ebay, rebuilt unit $199 or unit exchange for $130. Have someone check the codes so you know for certain. If that is the issue, make sure you have the exact part number off the original part. It is a potentially DIY job and I read a great how-to under the DIY forum.[/align][/align]The grinding noise, at least with mine, was the calipers not releasing just as a previous reply mentioned. I've had all four fail over the past two years, each time I started thinking pads... in only one case were the pads bad. Just last week I had the last one replaced at Midas for $250, I did absolutely no price shopping though. [/align][/align]Be prepared to have the rotors replaced, I was told they're a softer metal than most and will need replaced with pads. Again make certain you have the right part numbers. Check out ceramic pads, clean rims!!! [/align][/align]If I were to speculate, based on my car and others I hearwith a B5 A4... the passenger side airbag will soon fail, a nice complimentary dash light for your brake and ABS lights already lit. And I would fear all of the front control arms will loosenbringing asquawk like no other and the tie rod ends will get slack. I hope I'm way off base though.[/align]
