heavy trunk lid
i searched this topic, but couldn't find anything relevant.
i have a b5 a4. the trunk lid is very heavy to open and close.
i don't think the shocks are the problem, since the trunk stays open and holds itself up.
i'm thinking the hinges might be tight, but thought i'd ask around first.
anyone have this problem? and i'm sure it's not just an a4 thing, because i went with a buddy to testdrive another b5 a4 and the trunk opened like a dream!

I don't think the A4 trunk lids had shocks on them, they should be spring tensioned. Look under the lid for anything thats in the way of the arms, or dragging on them.
First time i've heard of anything like this on an A4.

You might get really lucky and find that some drug smuggler left $25,000 in the lining of the trunk lid. That would be a problem worth having.
On a more serious note, check the ball joints on the ends of the gas cylinders. If they are tight, it would cause the trunk to resist opening. Also, make sure that there is enough slack in the latch cable. (Left side of the trunk lid) If there wasn't enough slack, you would be pulling against it.
