i took delivery of my new A4 2.0L S-line yesterday that has been waxed by the garage. The silver trim looks mottled/marked by the wax - i have got the worst of it off but does anyone have any tips or recommend how to treat the rest?

If you mean the chrome-look trim around various parts of the car, try a glass cleaner - that usually takes stuff right off of a surface like that.

 

if your talking about the chrome upstates right use some glass cleaner or denatured alcohol or even a microfiber depending on the wax, carnuba, synthic, paste, liquid, its just residue that wasen taken off, if you talking about actual textures trim then you need to take either a magic eraser to it to get is out of the textures ASAP or theres a product ont he market called tm1000 which should restore the trim.
