Default high fuel consumption and lost acceleration

help needed A6 2.8 30v quattro fuel consumption has dropped from average 26mpg to 17.9 with loss ofacceleration aswell, car stll reaches 140 plus but a lot slower than usual no error codes showing on dealer diagnostic? also had to change cat recently as it had burned out which i suspect is linked to fuel consumption? dont want to fork out for another as theyre not cheap, whilst on cat subject are they available from non dealer as i couldnt find one anywhere?

cheers

Had the same problem. Check the mass air flow sensor (MAF). It regulates how much fuel mixes with the air. It will waste gass and burn rich causing the lack of acceleration and poor fuel millage. K&N fuel filters if over oiled will cause this problem.

how do you clean the MAF sensor, do you actually pry open the sensor or just spray into the thing itself.

SAudi...to clean the MAF you take the sensor and the round housing unit out. Remove the two screws actually holding the sensor in its housing, and remove the little sensor piece. Spray the sh*t out of it with MAF cleaner, then let it dry for an hour or so. Make sure it's completely dry and replace everything. After cleaning the MAF, my car kicked ***. It was faster than when I purchased it 12K ago.
