Default Inexpensive Fuel Gage Solution

I posted some months ago that I was having an issue with an innacurate fuel level sensor in my '03, A6, 4.2 (70K). The problem was that it was giving me a false reading on the remaining miles to empty as well as the needle gage on dash itself was innacurate. The result was an pain the **** running out of gas when it indicated I had over 100 miles left. The repair at a dealer was $750. I really didn't want to pay for something I could, with little effort, monitor by way of calculating avg. mpg and tank capacity.
Someone long ago in another post recommended BMW's fuel system cleaner. I want to say that after investing the $13, it was the best move I ever made. No promises that it will work every time or on every car, but I would recommend trying it before bending over for the repair. No issues since! Of course, there is a post here that tells you how to DIY, but it looks a bit tricky and messy. My needle will stick for a few minutes when I first fill up, but releases and does not stick again thrughout the tank's being emptied.
Hope it works for you as it did for me.

Well, your money is worth twice as much also!

You should start to use a cleaner every 6 months. It will help other things besides the fuel level sensor. If you need it replaced, find a local independent, I'm sure it's no where near $750.

IMHO, Redline SL1 & Amsoil PI are the BEST FSC out there!
