Default Internal vs Atmospheric???

I have heard two things on back pressure from the turbo. In the B5, is it better to vent to the atmosphere or keep it internal such as stock? Im trying to decide but I have heard that its not good. Thanks.

keep it internal, the MAF sensor is before the turbo so the air it measure is air that get recirculated back into the intake path, also since the air is recycled instead of blowing into into the atmoshpere this help the turbo reduce lag since it already has charged air to work with instead of charging new air.
