Default IPOD in a 99 1.8 Quattro Installation

I took my car in to get an Ipod Installed here at a local stereo installer. They sold me a kit (you can get the same one at best buy), that will hardwire the ipod into your current bose system. Unfortunately, they are now telling me that they cannot get the kit to work with this particular model of bose/my model car. They are telling me that the only other option is to get an FM transmitter, which they say I could install myself or to get a new head unit (they have an Alpine they recommend) that is IPOD compatible...

anyone run into this? I don't think that they are trying to get me to buy a stereo from them and they know how I have no intentions of pulling the current stock stereo.

What would you guys do?

Did you try any other stereo installers? Or possibly a dealer. I cant think of any reason why you cant wire the ipod to the car.

I agree, there are a gang of different ipod adaptors out there, check em' out they may have something for your stereo. Ion Neo, DICE Electronics, Denison, Aux, to name a few. I just looked on the DICE site I think they have one for your year, give em' a call.

A year later, so you've probably found a solution, but just in case anyone else needs help, check dension.comto see if the IceLink Plus will work with your model (it most likely will). If it doesn't they may offer another product that will. I have it installed in my car (2004 A4 with Bose), and it's a dream. Directly connected to the factory stereo (via the CD changer), and the faceplate and steering wheel functions still work. Perfect CD sound. The other upside, is that unlike many other adapters, you can also set it so you can still access the menu on the iPod, itself (to search for music). All of the other adpaters I researched disengage this, which is annoying, as I like to change my music slection up frequently. Well worth the small investment! I heard the new models even display the song titles on your stereo display. Also, if this works, you don't need to use the cradle they offer, if you prefer to have your iPod hidden. You can install it in the glove box, under the armrest, or in the armrest storage compartment (I keep mine here).

Why not just buy the factory iPod adapter? It's only $150.
