My neighbour and friend has an Audi Cabriolet, I believe it's called an 80 final edition. It's V reg and seems to be based on an 80 (has the 80 dash etc).

He bought a key off eBay as it only came with one, and I thought I would be able to program it using VAG-COM. On closer inspection it turns out that it only has the older diagnostics socket which I think only gives access to the engine electrics (rather than the dash).

Does anyone know the procedure for programming both the buttons to unlock the car, and the transponder chip so it will start it?
