Default Knocking noise?

Hi guys and gals,

New here so please be gentle I drive a 1998 A4 TDi Quattro and I am getting a knocking noise which sounds to me to be from the front drivers side. I was drving over some cobbles yesterday and it sounded like the wheel was going to come off! I can't feel it through the steering wheel and it doesn't do it when I go over slight bumps etc. only fairly hard ones

Advice much appreciated

the noise is probably coming from one of your upper control arms on the side of the vehicle that is making the knock. That is the component that most commenly fails and thats the nnoise it makes. It could also be a tie rod end or lower control arm. My advise is to raise that side of the car and use a pry bar on each of the suspension components and see which one has the most play.
