Default Lack of fuel

My son's friend has a 93 Audi S8 and I am trying to help him, although I am not that great around cars. As the car was idling in a parking space, the engine just died. The engine turns over just fine, but doesn't catch, leaving me to believe no fuel is getting through. I found the fuel filter and removed the bottom connection, and when he tried to start it, fuel came shooting out. So if the fule goes through the filter from top to bottom, it appears that the filter is not clogged. Since he has no owners manual, I cannot tell if he has a rollover switch that would cut off the fuel. And he can't get into the trunk either, preventing me from looking for a reset switch.

This kid is going through atough time right now. He has awife and son and is flipping burgers trying to make ends meet. I really want to help but my knowledge is limited. Please help me and point me in the right direction!

Thanks.

Ok, you need to check for spark, are you sure it's a 93 Audi S8??? I didn't think they made an S8 till 96/97?!

There are a lot of things that can cause these vehicles not to run, but it is apparent the vehicle IS getting fuel so you can stop check for that.

Thanks for you help on this. I may be incorrect on the year. What would be the easiest way to check for spark on this car?

It appears that the only way for him to open the trunk is with the key, and it usually takes about 15 minutes of jiggling to work. (I just wish the kid would have checked with me before buying the car)

jiggling never works only on the old cars ( system reset is required )

Keep it simple. Air fuel spark. You seem to have fuel. To check for air just try giving it a little gas. If the idle control valve is plugged a little air will get it to start. Check for spark by pulling a spark plug and laying it along with the coil on the valvecover while cranking the engine. You should see a spark. You should also feel/hear air coming out of the spark plug hole. That is a cheap double test. It tests spark and compression.
