MULTITRONIC--Huge problem--please help
I own a 2001 A6, 1.8T (this is not a small car for Greece), FWD, 112000 km (70000 mi) with a multitronic transmission. I have installed a K04 turbo and inhanced chip and program. There must be close to 240 hp coming out of the motor. All types of automatic transmissions are uncommon in Greece, so mechanics do not have a lot of experience, and I need help desperately.
About a month ago, I was stopped at a traffic light and as I tried to start again it had slipped into Neutral and the car wouldn't move. The solution I found was to shift into tip, wait a couple seconds and then shift back to Drive. That got it to work, but the gear indicator kept flashing.
I took it to the shop, they removed the transmission and found that the starter gear (large gear that is rotated by the starter) had to be replaced because the center section parts were rattling inside the center section. They also replaced the transmission oil, and they noticed that the oil that was already in the transmission had no resedue and was very clean--so they thought the transmission itself was in excellent condition.
One or two days after that, the transmission started acting up again. As I start, the transmission works ok for 1 - 5 miles, then it shifts into N, and I do what I described above. Now they are telling me I need to replace the transmission. Does anyone have a better solution, or verify that the transmission must be replaced indeed and tell me what happenend? Is this normal?
Thanks indeed in advance for your input
