Is My Motor Blown??!!
OK, I'm driving from Charleston to Charlotte and the oil light comes on after having run a couple hours. I live in Florida, so I'm far from home and pretty much no where. I pull over and check the oil. Basically OK, maybe a little low as I'm coming up on an oil change. Get off the highway and add alittle to get it to the top of the hashes but the light is still on. But oil is ok, so I go. Its running fine. Sounds normal until it starts loosing power. I pull over and shut it off. Check oil-fine. Try to start it and nada. No turn over.
Five hours later it is dropped off at Audi Charlotte and I'm friggin stuck. The car is a 2002 A4 Avant that the sticker in the Waranty book has a date of 06/02 on the opening page. I assume that is the waranty start date? I don't understand all the other numbers other than the vin. I leased it 06/03 for 39 months. It already had 7400 miles on it having been a loaner. Currently has 45000 miles on it.
Any guesses what I'm going to hear in the morning? I went through past posts on the subject and assume it was a sludge/oil pump issue and wish I had this knowledge prior to tonight. Oils been changed with synthetic well below the 10000 and recall work has always been done. Anyone know where I stand here???
TIA!

RE: Is My Motor Blown??!!
All VW Passats and Audi A4 1.8t 98 and newer are covered under a warranty against sludge build which causes the oil light to come on 95% of the time. The warranty is 8 years unlimited miles. The catch is you need all of the service records since you owned the car. I have had two of my customers covered under this and one even blew out rod bearings.

Is it true that you have to come up with all the service records even before you owned the vehicle? It seems pretty hard to obtain especially if they went to independent servicers (i.e. Jiffy Lube etc.). Is there an easy way to find this information?
