Default Is it my starter??

So i tried to start up my mom's car tonight and it doesn't start. It doesn't even crank, all you hear is real fast click,click,click,click......... I think it is the starter unless anyone else have any other ideas.

Car starting problems can usually be traced either on the battery, starter, key or the engine itself. Try checking out any of this component to solve your problem.

Sounds like a weak battery. Try a jump.

That clicking sound is teh solenoid attempting to engage teh starter motor. If a jump doesn't do it, it's teh solenoid, but, since you generally can't but a solenoid without the rest of teh starter, you'll (she'll?) be replacing teh starter. Easy check is to find teh starter (it'll be inderneath teh motor, close to the block, hard against the flywheel/bellhousing assembly) and short across teh connections. Assuming teh battery's good, if the solenoid's gone it won't bump. A thought occurs... How corroded are teh termiinals on Mom's battery? If they need cleaning, clean them (Coca-Cola works good for this, for some reason). Then charge teh battery and try and start it, again.

ummm... what kind of car is it, BTW?

i would also guess the battery, by the clicking it starter is not getting enough juice to get that car started. I would also recommend jumping the car and then going from there.
