Default Mysterious AC problem

I have a 2006 4.2 A6 QTRO with a mysterious AC issue...

While driving, the AC blows nice and cold, then suddenly begins blowing hot air on one side (passenger side). In addition, the sweet smell of coolant / antifreeze come through the vents. After a few minutes of this hot air, the cool air returns and everything seems to be normal (for a while, until it repeats).

Given it's a 2006, I am having trouble believing I have a bad heater-core. I've checked for leaks, and I can't find any under the car and my coolant reservoir is full and has plenty of pressure. Since the driver side blows cold, I would assuming I'm not low on R134A and since the passenger side returns to being cold, I'm suspecting a drain or evaporator sensor could be shotty...

Anyone ever seen/gone through this on such a young audi?
