Default Need to Replace the Thermostat

We have to replace the thermostat in my '93 Audi 100 S. I've been trying to search for a diagram but coming up short or even detailed explaination on how. It's my friend's husband who is going to work on it for me since my husband isn't here right now and he is going to have time to do it tomorrow morning. No auto books are even available locally for us (not that I really have the $100 to drop on one right now). Can someone please help? Just some good instructions and/or a diagram would be so wonderful! Thanks in advance!

if its the V6 its on the left side behind the T-belt and a biotch to replace. go to 12v.org, its got some pretty good stuff. aslo what makes you think its teh thermostat that needs replaceing.

Yes it is the V6 (sorry about that), thanks! All the symptoms are pointing to it being stuck shut. This is per my husband (who is deployed and I have had to tell through chat) and his friend who actually has taken the car on a test drive and felt I guess one of the hoses saying it feels like its all backing up.

really, is the car overheating, thats usually the signs of a failing thermostat, if the temp gauge is just erratic it may possibly be a ECT sensor but from what ive heard they rarely go bad int eh earlier 12v motors. honestly if teh car dosent have a drivability issue and its deemed the thermostat isnt in need of a change (unless the T-belt is due sometime soon) i wouldnt worry, it is reall hard to get out without taking off alot of stuff and removing the Tbelt which requires a special tool. it took me around 9 hours to do it and another 5 the next day because i somehow lost the o-ring and had to redo everything.

also i hope that website helps, there not too many poeple dedicated to working on the old audi V6s.
