new car... some problems
Hi everyone,
I just bought a 94 quattro competition. the engine is 2.0 liter 16 valve 140 HP. I have took the the car to the service and some mechanics. I am told that there is no problem with the car and it is great in and out. But I have some problems.. The car is at 132k kms. It was at 115k kms in 2002 (I checked the service log). It has made a 2000 kms this summer but it mostly wasnt used other than this 2000 kms for the last 3 years. I changed the oils and filters last week. I made 400 kms since I bought the car by the way. The most serious problem I have realized is the stopping of the engine. When I start the car the idle moves between 800-1100 or so. When I drive the car (whether the engine is hot or cold it doesnt matter) the engine stops if I slip the gear to neutral. This happens almost all the time mostly. Then sometimes it doesn't happen and the idle sets at 1100 or 900 when I slip the gear to neutral while driving (I dont know why or when). In addition, the engine sound is like a diesel car. Is it normal or not? All the services told that I have to drive a long distance since the car did not run for a long time and these problems will pass. What do you think? I hope I could described the problems well.

RE: new car... some problems
Given that it sat for so long, your service techs MAY (not saying they are/not saying the aren't) be right. Give it an Italian tune-up and see what happens.
My Sis-In-Law has similiar, but not as harsh, problems with her '99 Excursion, which she doean't drive as much now that gas is appraoching the cost of Gold. But, when she takes it out for a road-trip to Jersey, or Ohio, it comes back running like a CHAMP; until it sits for another couple of months...
Yours sat for much longer. Cars were meant to be DRIVEN! I say take it out and let it ROAR.
