odd turn over issue

odd turn over issue
First of all I've been using this Site for a long time! Thanks for all the help. Just now registering 
. Also that capcha is the worst ive ever seen!... Lol
Anyway I have a 97 audi a4 quattro automatic 150k that has a huge delay in turning over when I go to crank it. I hear the ignition relay click but the starter doesn't click or do ANYTHING.
I will turn the key wedge something in it to keep it turned and sit and wait for sometime up to 7 minutes. Then BAM turns over and cranks strong.
Sometimes on a rare occasion the starter will click once or twice then turn over. But 99% of the time it'll sit there completely silent with the key turned and it'll turn over strong.
Also I believe the previous owner already changed out the ignition because the original key no longer works for it.
