Default Outside Temperature Indicator

I hope someone can help me on this because it is starting to drive me crazy. My outside temperature indicator on my dash seems to go all wacky sometimes and go down to -50 when it is like 80 degrees outside. It doesn't happen all of the time and only seems to happen after driving for 10-15 minutes. Any help?

It is a 2001 a4 1.8t, has there ever been anything screwy with those sensors or anything in the past?

the sensor is easy to replace, just remove the front bumper and there it is right in front of the radiator
