Q5 power steering question...
Hello Q5 & Audi owners. I justed purchased a 2009 Q5 3.2 and I noticed a little growning when I turn the steering wheel when stationary and I slow speeds (parking lot).
Is this normal? I've read somewhere that the Q5 has electronic steering (fly by wire). With electronic steering, is there a P/S reservoir? Any fluid to change/refill?
Thanks, stickman1970

If you have an early '09 with Drive Select it's electric assist. Without Drive Select it's hydraulic. Late (mid year sometime) '09 and newer all have Servotronic (electric). IF it's electric, you will hear a slight groan noise when stationary or moving slowly. It's just the fairly large electric motor running and it's normal, nothing to worry about. I mean, they have a dedicated 50 amp circuit directly to the motor on the rack from the junction box so it'll end up making some noise. It's mounted directly to the steering rack and soem noise transmits to the chassis and up the steering column. Not any practical way of isolating the noise transmission more than it already is.
If it's an early one with hydraulic, we've never had a customer complaint yet so don't have anything to add on that one. Please don't forget if you go to the dealer, we can't fix a normal condition. Thanks in advance.
