Question about brakes
Hi. New member here. I have a 2010 A6 with 37K miles. Took it in for annual service (dealership) and asked about checking the brakes. They told me that they (the pads?) are getting low and will need replacement in a thousand miles or so.
"How much?" I asked. The price quoted was astronomical. They said that if you replace the pads you have to replace the rotors too. Really? If the rotors are not scored or warped, I don't understand why. Can someone please offer some clarification?

I don't call them the "stealer...er...dealer" for nothing. You can order pads and rotors from Blauparts (one of this sites sponsors) for a fraction of what the dealer wants and have any competent shop install them. I do my own. No need to pay an extra $500 for pretty box to throw away. If you have a 3.2L engine here are the front pads and rotors for $228.

Rear pads are around $30-$50. Rear Zimmerman rotors can be had at Partsgeek.com from $40-50 per rotor. All of these parts are the same OEM manufacturer parts in a MUCH cheaper throwaway box..
