Question about 'calibrating tires to the safety equipment'
I'm a very happy 2017 S6 owner who had to get all 4 tires replaced at the dealer (ran over some badly exposed train tracks, blowing out a front tire).
I replaced my tires 2 years ago at the same dealer and paid for the tires, installation, and alignment. Replacing the same tires on the same car now incurs a 400 dollar charge to calibrate with the safety systems. I don't have lane assist or intelligent cruise control. Is this a legitimate service?
Thanks,
Dan

Interesting question. I was at the local dealer today for the 3-year service on my 2018 A6 and they told me that I needed new tires (at 17,000 miles) and an alignment. The service writer said that BECAUSE I have lane assist and adaptive cruise control they would have to recalibrate the safety systems and the alignment would cost $400 so that makes me wonder whether you need such a special alignment if your car DOES NOT have these safety systems.
