Default Radio Doesn't Work - Help?

I recently had to replace the battery on my '96 A4, and since then I've had no radio.

After finally tracking down the radio code I looked into the code-entering-procedure... turn on radio; "SAFE" appears; etc.

The problem is that "SAFE" doesn't appear for me... nothing appears, so I can't get to the part where I enter the code.

Fuse 37 - 20A radio - is good.

The radio backlighting works fine with the headlights on, but I think the backlighting may be a separate circuit.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Sly

I was hoping that there wouldn't be a fuse in the radio itself. Any advice on how to get the radio out to check it...?
