Default Regular, Premium, or Super for gas?

I just got a 2006 A4 3.2 Quattro and I was wondering what type of gas I should put in it? Will I see a difference between regular and super? Can I get away with just using regular?

under my gas cap lid it says use 91 or 95 I think so I usually use 93 (highest around here)

when gas was hard to get all I could put in it was 89 and my idle was a little rough and it seemed like I wasnt getting as much power as usual but your car may be different, trying regular gas should hurt it (not a professional opinion...)

It might cause a miss or rough idle but it'll go away as soon as you switch back.

Geesh, using 89 Octane shouldn't hurt the engine (heck, it's rated as premium here in the UP), that would be stupid. All of our cars have knock sensors that essentially detects the gas octane level (the 'power' of the gas more-or-less) and adjusts the car to use said gas without hurting the engine.

It is always recommended to use Super unleaded because it is generally better for the car, but it certainly doesn't matter THAT much. Some people won't ever use anything but 93+ but it's all really pretty rubbish. If you want to spend the extra cash, then go ahead! Usually it's a good idea to treat your car nicely so it treats you nicely anyway.

Typically I'll get around 92 (yeah they're weird where i'm at) if I can, but i've gotten 89 plenty of times with absolutely no difference noticed.

the lower you go in octane the less power you will have, you may get a CEL like i did when my dad filled up my S4 with regular. you may also get a misfire, bu the ECU will jsut retard that timing. when gas got expensive i was filling up with a mix of 89 and 91 and every 5 or so fill ups running 91. personally audi's have high compression engine and premium is what you should be putting in it because it will affact the engine sooner or later. also nm3210 good for you on MTU, i was gonna go up there for electrical engineering until my life went to **** and i lost my 20k in scholarships and grants, and then lost my S4 6 days after i had to call and cancel my admission. PORQUOI!?!?!

Higher octane fuel burns more slowly than does lower octane fuel. The knock sensor retarde the timing to compensate for lower octane. Lower octane fuels (at least those available in North America) should not harm your engine, but you should not expect the performance which you would get with 91+ fuel.
